On the 6th of March, Ghana once again observed its annual Independence Day celebration, a significant date that pays homage to the leadership of Osagyefo Dr. Kwame Nkrumah in securing the nation's freedom. The occasion is marked by a nationwide parade that honors the brave individuals who fought and sacrificed to secure independence for Ghana. The celebration extends beyond the country's borders, reaching Ghanaians in the diaspora as well.
This year's celebration was marked by regional parades across the country. In Greater Accra, various municipalities were well-represented by selected schools and cadet groups. The Ayawaso West Municipal Education Directorate was represented by the Roman Ridge Basic School, which received vigorous training from experts and prison officers from the James Camp Prisons.
The Tema Sports Stadium was chosen as the venue for the regional parade, with selected schools from the region, including Roman Ridge Basic School, marching past the regional minister, Hon. Henry Quartey, the acting regional director of education, Mr. Stephen Abanfo, municipal chief executives, parliamentarians, and directors of education.
In a speech delivered by the Honorable Minister, Henry Quartey on the theme "Our Unity, Our Strength, Our Purpose," he advised students to focus on their studies, work hard to complete their education, and avoid any form of indiscipline that could ruin their future. He urged them to become responsible citizens and contribute to the nation's development.
Prizes were awarded to the best schools during the parade, with the Roman Ridge Basic School representing the Ayawaso West Municipal Education Directorate taking the fourth position.
