The School Feeding Implementation Committee of the Ayawaso West Municipal Assembly (AWMA) conducted a two-day monitoring exercise across the school feeding beneficiary schools within the Municipality. This exercise, conducted on Wednesday, 26th and Thursday, 27th November 2025, was aimed at ensuring the effective delivery of the National School Feeding Programme within the Municipality.
The Monitoring team comprised the Municipal Chief Executive Officer, Hon. Dr. Michael Mensah, the School Feeding Focal Person for the Municipality, Dr. Abena Konamah Adampah and other members of the School Feeding Implementation Committee. The team visited all the School Feeding beneficiary schools namely: Abelenkpe Basic 1 & 2, Dzorwulu Primary/ KG A & B, Bethany Methodist Basic School, La- Bawaleshie Presby 1&2 Basic Schools, University Staff Village Primary & KG and Roman Ridge M/A Basic School. At each school, the team assessed some criteria like hygiene standards, quality of food, rate of consumption, timely delivery of meals to pupils and adherence to the standards expected under the programme.
Also, the team engaged with the headteachers, caterers, and pupils to gather feedback on the effectiveness of the programme. The visit also helped identify areas that required improvement, particularly the need to strengthen hygiene protocol and support the caterers with some storage equipment. Most headteachers and caterers reiterated that the program should be extended to the Junior High School students since most of them cannot afford a proper meal a day, and some even plead with the caterers for a portion of the meal during distribution.
The Municipal Chief Executive Officer, Dr. Michael Mensah encouraged the caterers to maintain high standards under the School Feeding Programme since the health and growth of the students are very essential. He urged the caterers and school authorities to keep good hygiene and work closely with the Assembly for the continual improvement of the School Feeding programme.
