AYAWASO WEST MUNICIPAL ASSEMBLY CELEBRATES 6TH NATIONAL FARMERS DAY

The Ayawaso West Municipal Assembly held its 6th National Farmers Day themed “Building Climate Resilient Agriculture for Sustainable Food Security” on Friday 8th November, 2024 at the ODEL Recreational Center, Dzorwulu.

Present at the event were the Municipal Chief Executive (MCE) - Hon. Sandra Owusu Ahinkora, Mr. Akwasi Apiase (Chairperson), the Municipal Coordinating Director - Benard K. P. Sakyiama, District Commanders of the various Security Services in the Ayawaso West Municipality, Traditional Council of Okponglo, Mpeasem, Abotsiman, Shaishie and La Bawaleshie, Asembly Members, Unit Committee Members, various Heads of Departments, Staff of the Ayawaso West Municipal Assembly, other invited guests and residents of the municipality.

Addressing the audience, the MCE Hon. Sandra Owusu Ahinkorah expressed her excitement to be present at the programme and encouraged the farmers never to relent from farming even though there are not enough lands for vast farming.

The Municipal Agric Director Madam Matilda Donkor also acknowledged the presence of the farmers and applauded them for their cooperation and hard work in farming activities them . She said “ Thank you for always ensuring there is food in our households to feed”.

Climaxing  the event, some farmers were appreciated for their efforts and presented with prizes. Overall Best Farmer -  Mr. Baba Mohammed Atane (32 led television, cutlass, Knapsack spraying machine, wellington boot and a corn mill machine);  Best Crop Farmer - Mr. Mohammed Awale (Pumping machine, Hose, Cutlass, Wellington boot and a Knapsack spraying machine); Best Livestock Farmer - Mr. Afeli Agoba (1 Polytank, 1 Cutlass, a Wellington boot, and a Knapsack spraying machine); Best Agriculture Extension Agent - Mrs. Patience Dogbe (a  Wellington boot, Cutlass, Knapsack spraying Machine, a Cloth and a cash price of  Two Thousand Ghana Cedis Ghc. 2000.00).  

 


Other awards given out included: The Best Backyard Farmer – awarded a Refrigerator, Cutlass, Knapsack spraying machine, Wellington boot and a Cloth and  Best Female Farmer – awarded a 2 Door Refrigerator, Cutlass, Knapsack spraying machine, Wellington boot and a Cloth.

Since the day coincided with the world AIDs Day, the Municipal Health Directorate organized a Free Health Screening program for the residents of the constituency during the Farmers Day celebration. The screening focused on testing of HIV status, checking of body vitals and free Consultation with Health Experts.

Giving his closing remarks, the Chairman, Mr. Akwasi Apiase expresses his profound gratitude to all the people present for making the 6th Ayawaso Farmers Day a success and also entreated the farmers to continue with their hard work.
