In a major effort to improve sanitation, health, and reliable access to clean water, the Ayawaso West Municipal Assembly commissioned three mechanized boreholes for three key school communities within the municipality. The event took place at the Legon Staff Village School on 12th May 2026. The beneficiary schools were Legon Staff Village SchoolAbelemkpe 2 Basic School, and Roman Ridge Prisons School. The commissioning ceremonies were attended by the Municipal Chief Executive Hon. Dr. Michael Mensah, the Chief of La Bawaleshi Nii Godfred Ashie Djanie, Municipal Director for Education Mrs, Judith Ennin, the Presiding Member Hon. Emmanuel  Adjei Tutuani, some officials of the Municipal Assembly, Headteachers, Teachers, and some students.

Delivering the keynote address, the MCE emphasized that the project aligns perfectly with the Assembly’s agenda to achieve the United Nations Sustainable Development Goal 6 (SDG 6), which advocates for clean water and sanitation for all. The MCE noted that the installation of mechanized boreholes would eliminate the regular water shortages that disrupt academic schedules and pose health risks to both students and staff. He added that the facility should be maintained properly.

The Municipal Education Director indicated that the facilities would contribute to the WASH project in schools.  They noted that the steady supply of water would drastically improve school hygiene, facilitate the smooth running of daily school operations, and enhance the implementation of proper handwashing protocols among the children.

The headteacher for the Legon Staff Village School giving the vote of thanks expressed immense relief and appreciation to the Ayawaso West Municipal Assembly and the MCE.

The ceremonies had a traditional touch as the Chief of La Bawaleshi performed the historic pouring of libation to invoke ancestral blessings for the longevity of the water projects and the prosperity of the schools.
