The Ayawaso West Municipal Assembly (AWMA) on Wednesday, 30th April 2026, commissioned a newly constructed six-unit classroom block and a fully paved compound at the Accra College of Education Demonstration School. The project forms part of the Assembly’s ongoing efforts to improve educational infrastructure and create a conducive learning environment within the municipality.

The ceremony brought together key stakeholders including the Municipal Chief Executive (MCE), the Municipal Education Director, representatives of the Mempeasem Traditional Council, the Assembly Member for the area who also serves as the Presiding Member, school authorities, and other officials of the Assembly.

In his address, the Municipal Chief Executive reiterated the Assembly’s commitment to enhancing teaching and learning conditions across schools in the municipality. He explained that the classroom block is the first phase of a broader development plan to address infrastructure challenges facing the school and assured stakeholders that additional phases would be undertaken.

The Headteacher, in her remarks, expressed appreciation to the Assembly for the intervention. She highlighted that due to overcrowding, the school had been compelled to use the library as a classroom space. With the completion of the new classroom block, she noted that the situation would improve significantly. She further appealed to the Assembly to assist in renovating the library once it is vacated, so it can be restored for academic use.

Receiving the facility on behalf of the Ghana Education Service, the Municipal Education Director commended the Assembly for its continued investment in education. She noted that the provision of adequate infrastructure plays a vital role in improving teaching and learning outcomes. She assured that the facility would be properly managed and maintained for the benefit of the pupils and staff.

The paved compound, which was previously bare and sandy, was also highlighted as a major improvement. The new surface is expected to enhance sanitation, reduce dust, and provide a safer and more comfortable environment for both academic and recreational activities.

On behalf of the Mempeasem Traditional Council, the Okyeame, Okyeame Abbey, expressed gratitude to the Assembly for the project and other developmental initiatives within the community. He commended the Assembly’s efforts and expressed hope for continued collaboration and more development projects in the area.

The commissioning of the six-unit classroom block and paved compound marks a significant step in the Assembly’s drive to improve educational facilities and promote quality education in the Ayawaso West Municipality.
