The Municipal Chief Executive for Ayawaso West Municipal Assembly Hon Dr. Michael Mensah on Saturday 2nd August 2025, held a community engagement with residents of Westland Electoral Area at the Church of Pentecost – West Legon Assembly. The gathering served as a platform for the MCE to further solicit their concerns to enable the assembly address them for effective development in their community.
The meeting brought together several residents of the electoral area, unit committee members and opinion leaders. Also present at the occasion were the Assembly Member of the electoral area, Mr. Justice Kudalor and some officials of the Ayawaso West Municipal Assembly.
Addressing the audience, the MCE Hon. Dr. Michael Mensah expressed his appreciation to residents for honouring the meeting and added that residents are very important stakeholders of the assembly. He explained that the meeting was a follow up to the recently held public hearing meeting. The main purpose of the meeting is to find out their problems and concerns to enable the assembly factor them into their plans and to appropriately resolve them hence, they should not hesitate to bring up their problems.
Having given the opportunity to share their problems and concerns, the residents warmly welcomed the MCE and his entourage as well as commended them for such initiative. Amongst the concerns raised included the need for expansion of the Westland bridge and construction of drains within the community. They reiterated that the bridge has been the main cause of flood issues within the community. It serves as a drain passage for other surrounding communities and it cannot contain the amount of water that flows through it during downpour. Thus, little rain fall causes flood and destruction of property within the community. Other requests made included building of market center, organization of hands-on skill programs for youth to curb unemployment, and education on flood safety measures. The residents expressed concerns over unfulfilled promises made by previous leadership especially about the bridge and further urged the MCE to ensure the Assembly honours its commitments moving forward.
The concerns were noted and residents were assured of addressing the issue. As kick start, the MCE and his delegation visited the Westland bridge to analyze the situation for appropriate measures to be taken.
