On Thursday, 16th April 2026, The Municipal Chief Executive, Hon. Dr. Michael Mensah conducted an official monitoring tour of various centers where trainees sponsored by the Municipal Assembly were undergoing their National Vocational Training Institute (NVTI) practical examinations. The visit was aimed at assessing the progress of the candidates and ensuring that the Assembly’s investment in technical and vocational education is yielding the desired impact.
The MCE’s first stop was in Dzorwulu, where candidates were engaged in their Dressmaking and Tailoring practicals. The atmosphere was one of intense focus as students worked on intricate patterns and garment construction. Records indicated that while nine students were originally sponsored for this module, six were present to sit for the final practical assessment. The MCE took time to inspect the ongoing work, praising the precision and creativity displayed by the trainees despite the pressure of the examination.
The tour continued to the Abelemkpe Basic School, which served as the examination center for the Hairdressing module. Four students were present at this location, demonstrating their proficiency in various styling and treatment techniques. The MCE observed the practical demonstrations, noting that the skills being tested were essential for the growing beauty and wellness industry within the municipality. Addressing the candidates at both centers, the MCE delivered a stirring message of hope and resilience.
He emphasized that vocational skills are the "engine room" of a modern economy and urged the students to view their certification as a passport to financial independence. "You are not just learning a trade; you are becoming solution providers," the MCE stated. "The Assembly sponsored this training because we believe in your potential to create jobs, not just seek them. I want to see you transition from these exam halls to becoming master craftsmen and women who will, in turn, train others. Stay focused, finish strong, and know that your community is proud of your dedication."
The Municipal Assembly remains steadfast in its commitment to Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET). Following the inspection, the MCE reaffirmed that the Assembly would continue to monitor the performance of these sponsored students and explore ways to assist the successful candidates in setting up their own small-scale enterprises.
As the practical examinations conclude, the municipality looks forward to a new wave of skilled professionals ready to contribute to the local economy.
