The Ayawaso West Municipal Assembly marked 68th Independence Day on Thursday, March 6th 2025, under the theme ‘‘Reflect, Review, Reset’’ at the Abelemkpe Basic 2 School Park.
The event witnessed the presence of key figures including the Municipal Coordinating Director- Mr Bernard Kwesi Pari Sakyiama, Member of Parliament- Honorable John Setor Dumelo, Presiding member- Honorable Benjamin Oklah, the Municipal Director of Education – Mrs Judith Anim Amoateng, Chief Director of Greater Accra Regional Coordinating Council-Lawyer Mrs. Lilian Baeka, Heads of Departments, Security Personnels, and Contingents from various schools.
Giving his address, the Municipal Coordinating Director, Mr. Bernard Sakyiama, extended a warm welcome to all the attendees, emphasizing the crucial role they play in shaping the minds and hearts of the next generation.He further highlighted some government plans to be implemented to enhance education which included the Bright Beginnings Initiative for the Early childhood and Basic Education level, the introduction of “Smart start curriculum’ to be integrated STEM into Ghana’s education, completion of the E-blocks, the abolishing of the Double Track system in the Secondary school system and well as the introduction of ‘No Academic Fee’ policy at the tertiary level.
Some schools who were present for the celebration included Accra Stem Academy, Faith Presbyterian, Accra College, Roman Ridge M/A Basic 2, and Dzorwulu Special School. Activities that also took place during the celebration included match pass by the schools, cultural display and poetry recitals.
Awards were also presented to all the schools for participating in the parade, and the three best school who emerged as winners in the parade competition. The overall best 2024 BECE candidates both male and female of the Ayawaso West Constituency were awarded with plagues and cash prices.
