The Ayawaso West Municipal Assembly (AWMA) organized a sensitization programme on the Right to Information (RTI) Act for selected staff on Wednesday, 14th May 2026, at the Assembly Hall. The programme was aimed at enhancing staff understanding of the provisions of the Right to Information Act, 2019 (Act 989) and strengthening the Assembly’s commitment to transparency and accountability in public service delivery.

Officials from the Right to Information Commission facilitated the session, taking participants through the key provisions of the Act, procedures for requesting information, timelines for response, the responsibilities of public institutions under the law and the role of the Commission.

In an address, the Municipal Coordinating Director (MCD) urged participants to pay close attention to the training, emphasizing that information required to respond to RTI requests would be sourced from the various departments. He noted that a clear understanding of the RTI Act is therefore essential for effective and timely responses. He further encouraged participants to cascade the knowledge acquired to their colleagues to ensure that all staff are well-informed.

The session was interactive, allowing staffs to ask questions and seek clarification on practical aspects of handling RTI requests. Staff expressed appreciation for the programme, indicating that it had deepened their understanding of their roles in promoting access to information.

The Assembly reaffirmed its commitment to ensuring compliance with the RTI Act and improving service delivery through openness and accountability.
