The Ayawaso West Municipal Assembly held its National Farmers Day themed “Feed Ghana, Eat Ghana, Secure The Future” on Friday 5th December, 2025 at the Dzorwulu Junior High School.
Present at the event were the Municipal Chief Executive (MCE) - Hon. Dr. Michael Mensah, Nii Godfred Ashie Djane (Chairperson), the Municipal Coordinating Director – Gordon Domayele, District Commanders of the various Security Services in the Ayawaso West Municipality, Traditional Council of Okponglo, Mempeasem, Abotsiman, Shaishie and La Bawaleshie, Dzorwulu/Abelemkpe, Religious Leaders, Constituency Chairman for both NDC/NPP, Assembly Members, Unit Committee Members, various Heads of Departments, Staff of the Ayawaso West Municipal Assembly, other invited guests and residents of the municipality.
Addressing the audience, the MCE Hon. Dr. Michael Mensah expressed his happiness about the efforts of Ayawaso West Farmers in ensuring food security and the well-being of residents thus they are worth celebrating since their dedication to farming is invaluable.
The Municipal Agric Director Madam Matilda Donkor also acknowledged the presence of the farmers and applauded them for their cooperation and hard work in farming activities. She said “ To Eat Ghana is a call to challenge ourselves as citizens, institutions and policy makers to prioritize Ghanaian produce on our plates, in our supermarket, in our food industries and in our export market. When we choose locally produced ingredients, we are not just buying food: we are creating jobs and means of livelihood for our farmers, stabilizing the Ghanaian economy reducing our import bill, and reinforcing national pride”.
Climaxing the event, some farmers were appreciated for their efforts and presented with prizes. Overall Best Farmer – Mr. Samuel Kwame Afful (A Tricycle and Knapsack spraying machine); Best Crop Farmer - Mr. Ellis Osabutey (A Motorcycle and a Hematic bag); Best Livestock Farmer - Mr. David Kotei Nii Koi (1 Polytank, 1 Water hose and 1 Wellington boots); Best Agriculture Extension Agent – Mr. Joseph Nii Adom (A cash price of Three Thousand Ghana Cedis Ghc. 3000.00).
The Best Backyard Farmer – Issah Labbo Rabkatu (A Refrigerator and a cloth), Best Female Farmer- Mrs. Gertrude Agbeworle (Television Set, a Cloth, Knapsack spraying machine, and a pair of Wellington boots) Best Youth Farmer – Zachariah Abdul Mumin (Television Set and a Knapsack spraying machine). Other awards given out included: Best Farmer Based Organization- Westland Farmers Association (Pumping Machine, Pesticides and Fertilizer NPK). Best JHS School in Farming- Staff Villiage Community School (1Polytank, Knapsack spraying machine and a Water hose).
Giving his closing remarks, the Chairperson, Nii Godfred Ashie Djanie expressed his profound gratitude to all the people present for making the 41st Ayawaso Farmers Day a success and also entreated the farmers to continue with their hard work.
