The Ayawaso West Office of the National Commission for Civic Education (NCCE) embarked on a series of impactful activities to commemorate the 2023 Citizenship Week Celebration between 26th May to 2nd June 2023. Under the theme, "Thirty Years of Consolidating Constitutional Democracy and Building National Cohesion: The Role of the Ghanaian Child," the NCCE aimed to instill civic values and responsibilities in the young generation.
The week-long celebration began at Golden Age International School in Abelemkpe, where the Programmes Manager of the Ghana Integrity Initiative (GII), Mrs. Mary Awelano, served as the main speaker. Mrs. Awelano inspired the students to strive for academic excellence while embracing Ghanaian values, as these qualities would shape them into responsible adults in the future.
Mr. Edem Afeeva, the NCCE Ayawaso West Municipal Director, emphasized the significance of the event and elucidated the concept of citizenship to the students. By highlighting the responsibilities citizens owe to the state, Mr. Afeeva urged the students to embrace Ghanaian values, thereby ensuring their future roles as responsible adults.
The students actively participated in the event, engaging in discussions and posing thought-provoking questions. In recognition of their insightful contributions, copies of the 1992 Constitution were presented to the students.
Moving forward, the NCCE Ayawaso West office continued the Citizenship Week Celebration at Methodist Bethany Basic School in Dzorwulu, Covenant Presbyterian School in Dzorwulu, Princess Diana School in East Legon, Joyful Home Academy in Abelemkpe, Abelemkpe 1 Basic School, Mamobi Prisons Basic School, Grace Preparatory School and Queen's International School in East Legon.
