Ayawaso West Municipal Assembly Celebrates 67th Independence Day

The Ayawaso West Municipal Assembly marked the 67th Independence Day on Wednesday, March 6th, 2024, under the theme "Our Democracy and Pride" at the Abelenkpe JSS park.

The event witnessed the presence of key figures including the Municipal Chief Executive, Honorable Sandra Owusu Ahenkora, Member of Parliament, Honorable Lydia Seyram Alhassan; Presiding Member, Honorable Benjamin Oklah; Municipal Coordinating Director, Mr. Bernard K.P. Sakyiama; Municipal Director of Education, Margaret Kaba; traditional leaders, heads of departments, security personnel, and contingents from various schools.

Madam Margaret Kaba, the Municipal Director of Education, extended a warm welcome to all attendees, emphasizing the crucial role they play in shaping the minds and hearts of the next generation. She stressed the importance of instilling values such as tolerance, respect, hard work, and empathy in pupils, while also equipping them with the necessary knowledge and skills to become active and responsible citizens.

The Municipal Chief Executive, Hon. Sandra Owusu-Ahinkorah underlined the Assembly's strides in education, highlighting the successful implementation of government flagship programs like the Free SHS Program. She remarked, "The Assembly has made significant strides in the field of education, particularly with the implementation of the Free SHS Program, which has reduced illiteracy rates among our youth."

She also emphasized the Assembly's commitment to enhancing education standards and meeting academic needs. "We remain steadfast in our commitment to providing scholarships for deserving but needy students, ensuring that no talent goes to waste," she stated.

She praised the dedication of the school children and teachers who participated in the celebration, assuring them of the Assembly's unwavering support for quality teaching and learning initiatives. She remarked, "Your enthusiasm and dedication inspire us all. Rest assured; we will spare no effort in ensuring that our education system continues to flourish."

The MP for Ayawaso West Constituency, Hon. Lydia Seyram Alhassan, advised students to focus on their studies, work hard to complete their education and avoid any form of indiscipline that could ruin their future. She urged them to become responsible citizens and contribute to the nation’s development.
