The Ayawaso West Municipal Assembly held its Second Ordinary meeting of the fourth session of the second Assembly meeting, where key decisions were made to promote efficacy and development within the municipality.
During the two-day meeting held at the Assembly's conference hall on July 19th and 20th, 2023, several crucial issues were legislated upon, including enhancing sanitation, boosting administrative activities, initiating new developmental projects, monitoring ongoing projects, and improving the educational system.
The meeting was attended by the Municipal Chief Executive, the Municipal Coordinating Director, the Presiding Member, Assembly members, and Heads of Department.
On the first day of the meeting, Hon. Benjamin Oklah, the Presiding Member, warmly welcomed all attendees, expressing his gratitude for their continual support in making astute decisions at the General Assembly.
The Municipal Chief Executive, Hon. Sandra Owusu-Ahinkorah, presented the sessional address, highlighting the Assembly's programs, projects, and activities. Under general administration, Hon. Owusu-Ahinkorah mentioned that significant strides have been made in service delivery, with the addition of 74 new employees to the workforce. She also introduced Mr. Bernard K.P Sakyiama as the newly appointed Municipal Coordinating Director.
On the Green Ghana Project, the MCE informed the house that, the Assembly played a vital role in hosting the national launch of the 2023 Green Ghana Project, attended by His Excellency, the President of the Republic of Ghana, Nana Addo Dankwa Akuffo-Addo, at the University of Ghana on June 9th, 2023.
She shared encouraging news regarding revenue mobilization and financial performance, with improved collections of business operating permits and promising developments in Property Rates Collection through the Ghana Revenue Authority (G.R.A).
In terms of infrastructure development, Hon. Owusu-Ahinkorah celebrated the completion and utilization of several infrastructure projects, including a 6-unit classroom block with additional facilities at Abelemkpe, a School Feeding Canteen at Legon Staff Village School, and 1 No. 2 Unit School Feeding Kitchen at Maamobi Prisons Basic School.
She informed the house that, new projects were underway, such as the construction of a 6-Unit Classroom Block with ancillary facilities (Phase II) at Abelenkpe, the construction of a CHPS Compound with overhead water storage facility at Santana, and the Construction of a storm drain at Atraco behind Dell Hospital.
Regarding urban transport activities, she stated that ten out of twenty-four approved lorry stations in the Municipality have received the 2023 Route Permit, with the remaining fourteen stations set to receive their permits soon.
On the grounds of deepening community participation in governance, the MCE congratulated the Presiding Member for assisting the Assembly in securing land for the construction of the Shiashi Zonal Council. She also informed the house that, management has completed the construction of the Abelemkpe Zonal Council, while the search for land for Westland Zonal Council is on course.
The second day of the meeting concluded with the approval of the revised mid-year annual action plan and the revised 2023 programme based copmposite budget.
