WORLD HIV/AIDS DAY OBESERVED AT AWMA

Ayawaso West Municipal Assembly successfully commemorated the annual World AIDS Day alongside the Municipal Farmers Day Celebration on December 1st, 2023.

The event aimed to raise awareness about the fight against HIV/AIDS, identify new cases, and ensure accessible testing and care for residents in Ayawaso West.

Present at the programme is the Presiding Member, Hon. Benjamin Oklah, the Municipal Chief Executive, Hon Sandra Owusu Ahinkorah, the Municipal Coordinating Director, Mr Bernard P. K sakyiama, Traditional council, various Heads of department, staffs of health workers and general public.

A series of activities were organized during the commemoration. A dedicated screening site was strategically set up at the Farmers' Day Grounds. The primary targets were not only the jubilant attendees of the Farmers' Day celebration but also the broader community members. The health-centric affair saw the presence of a proficient team, including 10 diligent nurses and 3 experienced doctors. This medical ensemble delivered a comprehensive array of health services. Attendees were offered screenings for hypertension, diabetes, and body mass index, ensuring a meticulous examination of their overall well-being.

The Municipal Health Director, Dr Louisa Mantey, also provided an enlightening session on HIV education and HIV counseling.

Hon. Sandra Owusu Ahinkorah, the Municipal Chief Executive, expressed her joy for the program and encouraged all attendees to undergo testing. She emphasized the need to intensify health education at all levels, sensitize facilities for the implementation of the Differentiated Service Delivery policy, ensure consistent availability of HIV test kits and Antiretroviral drugs, and maintain continuous monitoring and supervision of facilities to collectively combat HIV/AIDS and achieve the national goal by 2030.
